Cancer Prevention Tips/Understanding Risks
While it is not always possible to prevent breast cancer, by practicing healthy habits you are taking an active role in managing your health. Lifestyle factors, for example, may affect your risk of breast cancer. You can help yourself to stay healthy by:
  • Controlling your weight
  • Stopping smoking
  • Getting plenty of physical activity
  • Breast-feeding
  • Discontinuing hormone therapy
  • Avoiding exposure to environmental pollution
  • Eating a healthy diet may decrease your risk of other diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke, and help you maintain a healthy weight — a key factor in breast cancer prevention
  • Being vigilant about breast cancer detection. If you notice any changes in your breasts, such as a new lump or skin changes, consult your doctor. Also, ask your doctor when to begin mammograms and other screening procedures to detect breast cancer.

Financial Assistance
Hospitals in New Hampshire work hard to make quality health care available, affordable, and accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay. Southern New Hampshire Medical Center offers many financial assistance and referral programs to ensure that cost will not be a barrier to anyone in our community getting the health care services they need.
