Exercise Myoview

This treadmill exercise test combines exercise and nuclear imaging to evaluate the blood flow to your heart muscle. Myoview is a low-level radioactive tracer (isotope) used to highlight the heart muscle.

Why do I need it?
This test is performed when patients have angina, unexplained chest pain, shortness of breath, or known coronary artery disease. An EMYOVIEW may be done to diagnose conditions such as coronary artery disease or to determine the cause of symptoms such as shortness of breath or light-headedness. It may also be used to check the effectiveness of cardiac procedures or predict the future risk of a heart-related condition such as heart attack.

How do I prepare?
  • No food or drink four hours prior to testing.
  • Avoid anything with caffeine in it such as coffee, tea or carbonated beverages.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and shoes that allow jogging (sneakers recommended).
  • Take your usual medications unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
  • Bring a list of all your current medications with their dosages to the test.
  • If you are a diabetic, ask your doctor how much medication you should take the morning of the test.
  • Avoid smoking 24 hours before the test.
What are the risks?
There are no risks associated with the isotope Myoview. You cannot, however, have this test if you are pregnant or suspect that you are pregnant. The risks of a stress test are that you
could have an abnormal blood pressure response, an irregular heart rhythm, or very rarely a heart attack or stroke.

What can I expect during the test?
  • An intravenous line (IV) will be started, and you will be given your first injection of Myoview. (This takes about 20 minutes.) Ten electrodes will be placed on your chest so that your heart can be monitored during the test.
  • Resting pictures will be taken one hour after you have been given the Myoview. (This takes about 20 minutes.)
  • You will walk on a treadmill.
  • Approximately two minutes before the treadmill is stopped, a second dose of Myoview will be injected into your IV.
  • After the treadmill is stopped, you will lie down and rest.
  • Your blood pressure and EKG will be monitored.
  • A second series of pictures will be taken.
  • Your IV will be removed and you will be free to leave.
  • Expect to be at the hospital for approximately three hours.
How do I find out the results?
A final report will be given to your doctor who will talk to you about the results.
