Outpatient Clinics

Our cardiac care program is designed with all our patients in mind. The following Outpatient Clinics serve to meet the needs of individuals with specific conditions and needs, and to support you as expertly and conveniently as possible.

Anticoagulation Clinic
The Anticoagulation Clinic is designed to assist Lahey Cardiology at The Medical Center patients in the management of their blood thinning medications. Patients make an appointment and are seen promptly for testing and then have their medication adjusted as necessary.

If you think that you may be a candidate for this service, please contact your physician for more information and a referral. If your insurance plan requires a copay for a service performed in the office, you will be required to pay a copay for this service.

Pacer/ICD Clinic
If you have a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator (ICD), you need to have your device monitored.  These are battery powered, complex devices that require fine tuning, individualized to your medical problem. To address these issues, we offer our patients a Pacemaker and ICD Clinic. Here your device and lead system will be electronically evaluated and optimized for your particular need.  The clinic is run by a physician and a registered nurse. All device interrogations and alterations in device programming are directed by our physicians, although we sometimes ask technicians from various pacemaker/ICD companies to assist in evaluation.

If you have either a permanent pacemaker or implantable defibrillator, you should be seen periodically at the clinic. If the device was recently implanted, we ask that you come more frequently to insure the device is working optimally. If the device is nearing the end of its battery life or if you have experienced any sort of problem with your device, we may also ask you to come in more frequently.

Some devices can be monitored from home using the telephone. (The doctor or nurse will let you know if this is an option for you.) This type of pacemaker check is called a transtelephonic check. Remote monitoring allows us to more closely monitor your device and aspects of cardiac function, but it will only tell the doctor if your pacemaker is working at its minimal level and if the pacer's battery is intact. The frequency of transtelephonic checks needs to be increased as your pacemaker gets older. These checks do not replace in-office evaluations.

If you have a pacemaker or ICD that needs to be checked, please call our office at (603) 577-2039  to arrange an appointment.
