More than 130 million Americans suffer from sleep problems, often caused by a sleep disorder. Though most sleep disorders can be treated, many of them go undiagnosed. The Sleep Center at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Sleep disorders can cause problems falling asleep, staying asleep, or staying awake. Symptoms may include:
- loud or irregular snoring
- difficulty breathing during sleep
- morning headache, sore throat, or mouth dryness
- leg movements
- sleep at inappropriate times (narcolepsy)
- momentary cessation of breathing while sleeping (sleep apnea)
- constant drowsiness
Sleep Center professionals conduct diagnostic sleep studies that can be performed both night and day. Our state-of-the-art equipment monitors brain waves, breathing, heart activity, muscle activity, and other functions. Our board certified sleep specialist reports the results to your primary care doctor, who reviews the results with you. Many disorders can be diagnosed in a single visit. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, breathing aid devices, and medications.
Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping or staying awake.
